Gilgy's Zone My dad apparently has to have back surgery. Not cool. For one, I feel bad for him. I hated having surgery a few years ago, and it's probably not any better having it on your back. Second, we don't have much savings. But my dad said since the surgery will be in probably a few months, he'll work overtime to get some extra money for it, so at least we got that covered. I just hope he gets better. He has been having back problems for years, but he got the news from the docter today it had to do with a disc or something in his back. Hope he gets better soon.... On a positive note, I got an Xbox. I had some money saved up, and decided to attempt to get back into gaming. I bought the Xbox last Thursday and got Doom 3 & Conker: Live And Reloaded with it. And I bought Burnout: Revenge last night, but uh, it's sorta boring, so I'm going to return it and hope to get Half-Life 2, the main reason I bought an Xbox in the first place, haha. I finished Doom 3. Fun game, just get sorta repetitive around the end. Fairly lengthy for FPS, too. And I'm about 5 hours into Conker: Live And Reloaded, but plan to play more on Spring Break, yay! Half-Life 2 should fucking kick ass. Or maybe I'll get Halo 2? Not sure, but right now, Half-Life 2 is what I'm thinking. For those of you who have played both, which would you recommend? I need suggestions. Current mood: Current music: Down - Learn From This Mistake. Song of the Moment is "Down Where I Am" from Demons & Wizards. Without a doubt my favorite song from Touched By The Crimson King and probably my favorite Demons & Wizards tune. Everything about the song is just great - from the nice and relaxing acoustic guitar, to the gifted and emotional voice of Hansi. Well written, too. Fantastic song. If you don't have it, I recommend downloading it. Hell, if you don't own Touched By The Crimson King, I highly advise purchasing the album. Much better than the original Demons & Wizards album, which was lackluster, IMHO. Current mood: Current music: Demons & Wizards - Down Where I Am. RPGFan. I'm quiting the message board. My lack of interest in RPGs and gaming in general gives me nothing productive or informing to post on the boards. All I've been doing for nearly half a year is posting my Song of the Moment or what album I recently purchased. I just feel as if there isn't nothing for me there anymore. I've had some good times on there, and made some great friends (Neal, Ryan, Rich, Deggy, Tranny, and a few others). If it wasn't for the RPGFan message boards, I probably wouldn't be into Metal or I might not be who I am now. While sometimes strict and critical, the board was a good place. Just feel as if I have nothing to contribute anymore, not that I had much in the first place, heh. If I ever gain interest in RPGs again, I may resume posting. Kinda doubt it, but you never know. So anyways, thanks to you guys who have helped me, informed me, and so forth. I'm glad I met you and I plan to still communicate via instant messaging. :) Current mood: Current music: Pantera - Hollow. Listening to Freedom Call. They're just so god damn fun and cute. >_> Uh, yea. Anywho, I've got a debatable topic to discuss. What is the meaning of a "true" metalhead? Sure, there is no real definition of a true metalhead, but most metalheads have common opinions of what is a true metalhead. Personally, my thoughts of it would be - someone who is true to themselves, loyal to their own, doesn't submit themselves to "trends" or whats popular at the time, someone who loves Heavy Metal for the music, not just the image, someone who doesn't listen to Nu Metal, mainstream Hardcore, Screamo/Emo, Hip-Hop, Rap, R&B, or "trendy" music. Not sure why, but uh, those genre's aren't very "Metal", in my opinion. Personally, I don't have a problem with some Metalcore, such as Shadows Fall, Trivium, and a few other bands. The members in those bands are all metal fans, and /actually/ have metal elements in their music, unlike other Metalcore groups, e.g. Atreyu, Killswitch, and whatnot. There are other traits that go along with a true metalhead, but those being the main ones, IMHO. Ever since the mid-'90s, the word "Metal" has been preverted, abused, and mis-understood. Nu Metal is not true Metal. Not in the fucking least. I get sick of seeing these punks at school who consider themselves "rockers" or "metal fans", but listen to KoRn, Limp Bizkit, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, and have never heard Iron Maiden, Priest, Iced Earth, Pantera, or even Black Sabbath! It's disgusting and an insult to Metal. I'm so up-tight about metal since it matters so much to me, and I hate seeing non-metal fags consider themselves metal. I just want to punch them in the god damn face. And like I said earlier, what I said is just my opinion and yours may differ, so please don't get offended. Anyways, I'm out! Current mood: Current music: Freedom Call - High Enough. Got quite a bit to say, so I suppose I'll start off with the mini-reviews of the albums I recieved the other night. *puts on some Iced Earth* Ahem. Children of Bodom - Hatebreeder Lately, I've been dissapointed with Children of Bodom. A month or so ago, I purchased Are You Dead Yet? and it was alright, but nothing special. Then not to long after that, I bought Hatecrew Deathroll and it was horrible, heh. So I was hopeing Hatebreeder would be better, and hell yes it is. Hatebreeder is purely amazing, definantly one of Children of Bodom's better albums. It brings you back to an era when Children of Bodom was /actually/ fast, technical, and uh, good. I highly recommend it for fans of Children of Bodom, or someone who wants to get into the band. Children of Bodom peaked with Follow The Reaper, so any of their first three albums are genius! Kataklysm - In the Arms of Devastation I've been waiting for the new Kataklysm for a few months, and well, it's finally here! Pretty damn good, IMHO. From the opening track to the closing track, you're in for a ride. Best Death Metal album released in '06 so far, and probably will hold that position until the new Deicide or Vital Remains is released. In the Arms of Devastation isn't better than Serenity In Fire, but I didn't expect it to be, heh. Anyways, good stuff here. Buy it. Freedom Call - Eternity I purchased Freedom Call's latest album, The Circle of Life, in the begining of '06 and loved it. So of course I was going to order some of their older material. I purchased Eternity, the previous album. Well, to get down to it, it's great! From the opening choir in "Metal Invasion" to the closing, and rather emotional "Turn Back Time", you're int for a great, cheery, happy, and cheesy Power Metal record. I wouldn't say it's better than The Circle of Life, but it's damn good. Iced Earth - Horror Show As most of you know, I'm a big Iced Earth & Jon Schaffer fan, so I was highly anticipating this one to come in. Well, it's pretty fuckin' good. I'm not a movie fan myself, but I thought the move tie-ins were pretty sweet, and some of Jon Schaffer's best writing is on this album, IMO. Some of the best tracks would be "Wolf", "Damian", "Ghost of Freedom", and "Phantom Opera Ghost". Not Iced Earth's best album, but I enjoyed it. I also bought some other albums, so here are the mini-reviews for them. Iron Maiden - Somewhere In Time I bought Somewhere In Time last night at Wal*Mart, haha. I thought I might take a look at their CD selection and saw this, so I automatically bought it! I haven't gave it too much listen yet, but so far it's pretty good. I really like the artwork and futuristic look. Any Iron Maiden/Metal fan probably has this, so no point in going into detail. Just get it if you don't! Flaw - Through The Eyes Ahh, Flaw. One of my oldest and favorite bands. I recall purchasing this CD around two years ago, but somehow I lost it, so re-bought it tonight. Very good album, very good. Chris Voltz is one of my favorite vocalist & writes some great lyrics. Lyrics that I can relate to. It also has one of my favorite songs ever - "My Letter". Such a great album and brings back some good memories. If you haven't gave Flaw a listen yet, pick this album up. Too bad Flaw broke some time ago, though. Chris Voltz and some ex-members of Flaw are in a new band, Five.Bolt.Main but FBM isn't near as good as Flaw was, IMO. Well, got that out of the way. All albums are great, so yay. Now, angst time. Current mood: Current music: Flaw - Inner Strength. Yay, Song of the Moment time! My current Song of the Moment is "Lashed To The Slave Stick" from Nile. "Lashed To The Slave Stick" is amazing on so many levels, from the great opening to the technicalty of the song. Karl Sanders is, without a doubt, one of the best musicians to ever live. He's a great guitarist, an excellent vocalist, and superb songwriter. Hell, all the band members in Nile are astonishing. "Lashed To The Slave Stick" is pure bliss. I highly recommend it! Current mood: Current music: Nile - Lashed To The Slave Stick. Last night I went to The Attic, a local place where local bands play and so forth. I arrived around 7:30 PM and somewhere about 8:00 PM, the show finally started. Around six or so local bands played and all of them were good, except the first band, which was a horrible Emo/Screamo thing. Anyways, it was a good time! While I didn't get into all the pits, I did get into a few, and it was great. Except for the fact when Buddy came running RIGHT AT YOU, you better LOL GET THE FUCK OUT OF THE WAY. Seriously, that guy is like a fuckin' train. I plan to go to more shows there, since I had such a good time. After hearning much positive remarks of the band, I decided to buy an album from them. I bought Grime Vs. Grandeur from Falconer. Excellent album. Grime Vs. Grandeur has quite a bit of sweet guitar riffs/parts and very nice vocals to boot! Oh, the album has well thought out, cleaver lyrics to go with it, filled with nice rhyming, especially on the choruses. Very good stuff here, IMHO. Going to order some older albums from Falconer soon. Hmm, other than what I just mentioned, nothing new or uh, interesting has happened. I had a great time at the show, so I'm going back soon. I plan to recieve my albums on Monday or Tuesday. Mini-reviews when I get them. Current mood: Current music: Falconer - Assailant. Since when did Megadeth become popular at school? I was in study hall, just minding my own business and trying to take a nap, but of course, some stupid scene morons were talking. Anyways, they were talking about how LOL AWESOME Megadeth is. I have to agree, Megadeth is the best Thrash Metal band, and always will be, IMHO. I have never been one to care for Slayer or Anthrax and whatnot, but uh, Megadeth I have always loved. Nice, well-thought out lyrics (most of the time), awesome guitar riffs and solos, non-boring vocals that take /some/ skill, and uh, just pure awesomeness. Fuck Metallica. Fuck Slayer. Fuck Anthrax. Yay Megadeth! Testament comes in behind Mega. Anyways, I didn't order t-shirts, but instead, CDs! I ordered In The Arms of Devastation from Kataklysm, Hatebreeder from Children of Bodom, Horror Show from Iced Earth and uh, Eternity from the cheesiest Power Metal band on earth, but I fucking love them, Freedom Call! Such a happy and bouncy band. *runs around singing Eternal Flame* P.S. As cliched as it may sound, Master of Puppets is still my favorite Thrash Metal album. But in general, Metallica is horrible. :P P.S.S. Mini-reviews coming for the albums once I receive them! Current music: Pantera - Walk (Live). So yea, we had to go to school today. Sorta sucked, but oh well. School went by fairly fast, so that's good! The new Kataklysm is dropping in America tommorow, so that's good. I may purchase it tommorow, depends on if FYE has it in. If not, I may order it online, but uh, doubt it. Speaking of Metal, I'm going to hopefully order some t-shirts tommorow. I'm looking at the Powerslave shirt from Iron Maiden, Painkiller shirt from Judas Priest, and a Pantera shirt. Just depends, but I'll let you know what I pick out... since we all know LOL SHOPPING FOR METAL SHIRTS IS FUN! Current mood: Current music: Judas Priest - Painkiller. Song of the moment is "Battery" from Metallica, from their Master of Puppets album. Such a great album, easily one of (if not) the best Metal albums of all time. Too bad I can't say that about their other albums. :P Current mood: Current music: Metallica - Battery. |
